How Do You Choose A Baby Name?
My husband and I took months to name our first child. We each made a list of names that we liked and compared. The names we both liked we put into a tournament spreadsheet and while the name we gave our first wasn’t my first choice (or his, really) it was the top choice for both of us. Plus we got a really cute nickname out of it, as well.
Lucky for us, naming our second kid was much easier because we had saved that spreadsheet. My husband looked at the list and shouted out a name and I was like “that’s gorgeous, that’s the one!”
Hey, when you know, you know.
Seriously though, picking out a baby name isn’t easy, especially when it’s your first. Looking back, as a musical theatre fan, I may have given more consideration towards a theatre inspired name, but where I was in my head at the time, I didn’t bother to entertain the possibility.
Now that Broadway has reopened, it’s almost like a rebirth! If you’re looking for a Broadway baby name, here is a list of all the character names in all musicals on Broadway that opened/reopened in 2021.
**NOTE** A few of the shows use the performers’ real names (Freestyle Love Supreme, David Byrne’s American Utopia) so I listed those. Some names I used both first and last names because their last names would also make great first names (in my opinion). I also didn’t bother gendering these names with either ♂ or ♀. Name your kids whatever you want!
Also you might see some repeats. For instance, “Chris” (or any other iteration of) appears in more than one show. I did that intentionally!
Alright, here we go!
